Ronald H. (Corky) Pond, 78, of Dowagiac, died peacefully, Wednesday evening, March 27, 2024 in the comfort of his home with his family’s presence.
His life began July 30, 1945 in Dowagiac, the third of six children born to Dick and Bessie Pond.
He married Leilani K. Fisher in Dowagiac on October 3, 1964. After thirty two years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 1996.
Ronald graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1963. He owned and operated Schott Saw Company for forty-three years. He loved his work and looked forward to getting to the shop every day. He retired and closed his shop in 2023. In his leisure time he loved watching NASCAR and attended many races. He also enjoyed deer hunting, mushroom hunting, going to casinos and spending time with family and friends. He was known to ride his Gator all around the neighborhood.
Ronald will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Marie Pond of Dowagiac; his son, Robert Matthew (Anita Rodriguez) Pond of Cassopolis; two sisters, Judy (Carroll) Clark, Marilyn (Lee) Prak; one brother, Jerry Pond; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Katherine Jenison; one brother, Rick Pond; and brother in laws, Roger Jenison, Thomas Fisher and Thomas Cushing.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday, April 9, 11:00AM at Michiana Church of Christ, 500 East Prairie Ronde St. Dowagiac, Michigan. His service will begin at 12:00PM with Brent Robinson officiating and assisted by Pastor Justin Shephard.
Ronald will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in South Wayne Cemetery in Wayne Township.
